@sam, photoshop... how to add a quick border.

this is just the quick way on how I would make a two framed quick border in photoshop.

Boom, open photoshop. In this case I have my picture on an additional layer. That's probably good practice. You can just doop it by dragging the layer you want onto an additional layer.

Goto Image > Canvas Size

Do a little math in the head... I changed everything to pixels for easy Math... and then I said... hmm I want 20 pixels on each side, so I added 40 to both values. Make sure the anchor is set for the middle box.

And your canvas extension color.. well I set it for black, you can make it black, white, transparent, or either of the foreground/background colors you have had previously selected.

Clicked OK. Now I'm over on my layer's pallet... right clicking and I'm about to adjust the blending options.

This is where you do all your cool transparencies, screens, overlays, all types of cool shit you see in the editing process. The layer takes on the properties in this option and that's how people do all their editing in layers.

For an extra border, you can either repeat the steps of increasing canvas size and choosing a different color, or you can just come in here an add a small stroke to your picture.

I chose a 3 pixel stroke, on the INSIDE (very important). Then by clicking the little color box, a color picker comes up and an eye drop tool... that allows me to pick out a color from the picture that I want to accentuate.

Done. Save.

or you can use that rectangular selection tool and highlight your image, then go edit stroke (inside) and set your stuff up. you'd have to do multiple layers to create 2 tone borders.

the problem with rectangular selection tool, is its very difficult to get everything mathematically correct.

dale you love that rectangular selection tool. i will break you of it!

4Deviator:
If you go to Window > Info, or just hit F8, you bring up the Info window. With that, if you use the Rectangular Marquee tool, you can get exact measurements.

Dont make fun of Slock unless you want this thread to be 23 pages long

Slock 05-30-2008 09:55 AM

Seriously. I'll do it.

And why do you hate me?

Thesuperman 05-30-2008 10:02 AM

You mean besides the fact that every time he tries to help someone out in photo shop, you out do him. lol

XaneAvitar 05-30-2008 10:19 AM

how is it outdoing me? the info pallet gives you coordinates and dimensions on a box. which yeah if you have a calculator or abacus handy you can make an even box on your workspace. or you can just use my idea and get a perfectly even border.

i dont pretend to be the master of ps/illustrator/etc. and I certainly can take advice on my work. but I can tell from two posts that you think you know a lot more than you do. im not even saying you dont know more than me but I have a way of telling when someone thinks their shit doesnt stink.

Slock 05-30-2008 10:24 AM

Alright, alright, calm down. I wasn't trying to outdo you. I was merely posting an alternative. I don't mean to start a battle with another artist. You do your thing, and I'll do mine with constructive criticism all 'round. Fair enough?

starrla 05-30-2008 10:26 AM

who are you?

Slock 05-30-2008 10:35 AM

Me? One of corona's friends. I actually was in the guild about a year ago, played for six months, quit, and now I'm back. More personally, I'm...um, Romeo?

youre right, if u dont mind cropping some of the image. i honestly didnt think about that. but youre gonna lose like 40+ pixels of image on each side if thats okay
