Any time i try to play a file in Window's media player off the internet, I get this error:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6000.6344&id=C00D11D2&contextid=87&originalid=80070005

Any ideas?

I've uninstalled any other media player that may conflict with it, but I am at my wit's end and Microsoft is not helping, obviously. I feel like I should just kill it and reinstall.

was this a file that you downloaded as a torrent? if this file was being uploaded from your pc by another person it could cause this. also, from what I heard Brian complaining about... too much pr0n makes MediaPlayer freak out.

you did attempt to restart your PC in an attempt to unlock the file in use?

is any other application using this file when you try to play it..for example another media players library is open

What is your primary web browser (IE, firefox)? Does the issue occur if you try to open the same file in media player through an alternate browser?

Install an alternate media player, configure your browser to use that player to open the file. Does a similar error occur (try video lan or media player classic)?

Does it seem to only occur when opening from a single website or a single file format?

What version of media player (9, 10, 11)?

Do you have all codecs installed (xvid, divx, etc)?

UPDATE:

So I installed quicktime, set the default program to it for all media files and videos and music run in it without sound. When I ran a .wmv file, it came up with an error saying my soundcard driver was screwy. I'll get the error message later. It did the same error both when I tried to play a file directly from the internet and from my hard drive.

Other viewers work just as well with porn.

And work on PCs.

Quicktime may work fine on Macs, but the PC conversion is a steaming pile of shit. It may be worse than Windows Media Player 8.

i rather like the fact when I click on a pornographic video, Quicktime has a nice embedded viewer.

my mac has been dead for like 5 months now btw

That is what I get now when I try to run a .wmv from any location. No sound in any other player. I also get an error when I log out of vent.

get VLC http://vlc-media-player.softhip.com/ Everything else just sucks. VLC plays every type of file i've run across and lets me watch wmv's using firefox since i won't use that trash everyone calls IE.
